Made by Yoke is a beautiful wellness brand that will be exhibiting at this year’s Cosmoprof North America convention held July 29th – 31st at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV. We wanted to give you a taste of what you can expect from this wellness brand that supports natural wellbeing through the practices of Ayurveda. Made By Yoke creates goods for the inner journey, and is rooted in the foundations of yoga and Ayurveda. Each product is made with intention, led by the wisdom of ancient cultures, and crafted seasonally through sustainable practices. All goods are socially and spiritually motivated – designed to honor the journey within.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

I was studying Ayurveda in the coastal countryside of Australia, and I began mixing herbal oils for my friends and neighbors who would let me test out treatments on them during my studies. This grew into a little Ayurveda practice, and my clients encouraged me to begin selling my oils at the local country markets, so I did. The first market I did, I was picked up by a store in Sydney that was on holiday in my little town, and that is how the business piece began.

Q. What inspired you to start your company and create your brand?

I was inspired by the amazing energy and approach of Ayurveda as a science. I went into the program as a yoga teacher with more of an interest in growing my yoga practice, but soon discovered the body of knowledge was beyond anything I’d ever imagined. It was the most beautiful language for health and wellbeing I’d ever experienced, and in essence, I fell in love with the science – all by accident, really.

Q. What makes your brand different from other beauty brands?

I think we are different because of the place of intention from which we create. The products, the lines, and the formulas are all really based on the traditional schooling I have, and are rooted in a profound love and respect for ancient systems of healing. We are very mindful about the way in which our goods are crafted, down to the time of day, time of year, and process of herbal infusions. I think our customers can sense this mindfulness in the products, and I believe we attract a specific customer who is looking for a slower, intentional approach to health overall.

Q. What is your most unique product, and why?

Our most unique product is our balancing perfume oils. These oils are herbal infusions that we use to help inspire people to learn about listening to their own inner healer. We encourage our customers to try out the different scents as a means to allow their body to select which scent would be the most useful to them. Similar to allowing your body to tell you what food to choose, we believe in allowing your body to help you choose the most appropriate products. The body has immense intelligence, and Ayurveda teaches us to not only honor this intuitive knowing, but to allow ourselves the space to explore the wellness that comes from within each cell. Because of this message and intention, these are our most popular products, as well.

Q. Without giving away too many of your secrets, (smile) — what do you anticipate your growth to be next year and what is your direction for the future of the brand?

We expect continued growth next year, as we’ve seen the wellness beauty market open, and in particular, the desire to understand the origins and the stories, behind product and production. The principles of Ayurveda are all about supporting natural wellbeing, so as this wellness market continues to mature, you will see more and more people seeking products that fit this need in brands such as ours.

Q. Finally, what gets you out of bed in the morning — what is your daily motivation?

For the past 15 years, every morning upon awakening, I meditate for 20 to 40 minutes. The presence and stillness that I cultivate through this daily practice is where I find my motivation, fuel, and inspiration for just about everything in my life.

Yoke was founded by Tamara Jones on a farm in the Australian coastal countryside of northern New South Wales. Tamara’s mantra and mission through Yoke is to create a holistic platform for blending the outer and inner journey.

Her belief is that wellbeing dominates and is available to anyone who chooses to cultivate this path. Tamara is an ex-New York City digital executive, daughter of vegan hippies, textbook Vata, 500-hour RYT yoga teacher, meditation and pranayama teacher, and classically trained in Ayurveda.
