CPNA 2018 Exhibitor: Interview with Founder, Maria Hatzistefani

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

Beauty and fashion have always been passions of mine. I started as a beauty writer for Seventeen magazine while I was at university in Greece, before moving to NewYork City to get my MBA in business. When I finished studying, I worked in banking. At that time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Getting fired from my job in banking was one of the best things that ever happened to me, as it pushed me to do something I was passionate about.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the
beauty business?

In 2007, I started my own business in the medical field. We started producing medical supplements,
which were recommended from doctors directly to their patients. In the medical field, hyaluronic acid has been very popular for the last 40 years, and hyaluronic acid is the ingredient that is at the core of our company, hyapur®. In 2009, we began to also use it in the cosmetic area.

Innersense Founder Story

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the
beauty business?

I grew up in the beauty business, so I was a natural at it professionally. Joanne came at it more organically; the healer in her drew her behind the chair. Joanne and I both had successful careers in big beauty when we met. She was a platform artist, and I was on the development side. Fortunately, the stars aligned and our paths crossed. We both spoke the language of hair, and magic just happened.

Interview with the Founder of Malie Organics, Dana Roberts

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

As early as 24, I realized that I needed to work for myself to blend motherhood and entrepreneurialism in a lifestyle that could inspire change in the products I wanted for my family. In Southern California, my husband and I created an environmentally preferable industrial cleaning company to provide alternatives to hazardous chemicals for cities, school districts, and municipalities. Then, several years later, I had my first daughter. We wanted to raise our family outside the hustle and bustle of Orange County, in a clean, healthy environment of nature, which for us meant the Garden Isle of Kauai. We sold everything, including the company that started it all, jumped off a bridge, and moved with our little girl in our arms to the most remote landmass in the world.

Interview with Rob Forgione & Denis Kovalyov of My. Haircare

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

My family were hairdressers. As a child, at the age of 10, I knew that I wanted to be in hair, but also had a love for pharmacy.  I got into a hair apprenticeship in Australia in my teens and worked my way up as a salon owner — to educator. I wanted to learn more about the industry, so I moved into sales and started traveling globally. Gaining education in sales gave me the opportunity to evaluate the hairdressing industry in 15 different countries in regards to product “gaps” in the market. We used a planned strategy in creating our own hair product-line.

Interview with Mary Centofanti, Founder of Davroe

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and your vision as Founder?

I started with the company at the age of 15 in 1984 as the company receptionist and although I loved it from the get go, at that time, in no way did I ever dream that I would own the company 23 years later. Davroe had quite a small range of about 4, mostly protein-based products, but I knew then that I loved the fact that we were creating unique effective products for professional salons and their customers.

Beauty Tribe: A Powerful Sisterhood

Interview with Co-Founder Michiyo Oishi

 Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

I co-founded Beauty Tribe with my two sisters, Lea and Aki—The Oishi Sisters. We all have different educational backgrounds; the eldest, Lea, is a visual artist; I am a potter; and Aki, the youngest, studied economics. Our Japanese grandfather built factories in the 1970s, and he found his niche in beauty appliances. Those were the days when he helped women achieve that perfect Farrah Fawcett look.

Cirem Beverly Hills: Interview with the Founder

Cirem Beverly Hills | Pharmaceutical Cosmetics

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in the beauty business?

We were born in a family-owned pharmacy with a passion for effortless wellness for all of our patients. Our specialty was in compounding, and we enjoyed helping our patients with our unique services. We noticed the increased demand for skincare, especially with our celebrity patients, as well as, unfortunately, the negative side effects that often ensued with almost all of the prescription-only ingredients in our formulas.
